Internationally acclaimed, this 2022 Maule Carignan was highlighted by James Suckling as number 50 on his list of the 100 Best Wines of Chile . A wine of profound and authentic character, it reflects the identity of the Maule region and confirms its excellence in every glass.
NOSE: Abundant notes of raspberry and cherries, extremely floral and fresh, with hints of tobacco as a sign of bottle aging.
TASTE: On the palate, this is a very fruity, fresh wine, consistent with the aromas on the nose. It has an intense acidity that prolongs its mouthfeel. Firm, characterful tannins give this Carignan depth and an interesting vertical structure.
ORIGIN
Carignan from the dry interior of Maule, Cauquenes area. Dryland vineyard, with vines averaging 75 years old, trained in the head-trained style, on granitic soil with a high presence of quartz, located 35 km from the coast.
PRODUCTION
Harvested in the second week of March, at optimal phenolic ripeness.
Vinified in stainless steel tanks. Destemmed and selected grapes, some of which are slightly split. Cold maceration for 3 days, alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts, gentle pump-overs and controlled temperatures (max. 24–25 °C).
After fermentation, the wine remained in contact with the skins and seeds for an additional 8 days. The free-run wine was blended with the pressed wine and transferred to 5-use French oak barrels (225 L), where it completed a total aging of 20 months.
PRODUCTION The result 5,400 bottles that reflect the purity and character of the Carignan from Cauquenes.
