The team at Pogo’s is always excited to have this sparkling Riesling in the store! It’s an extremely versatile bottle of bubbly and we can’t normally get it year-round. As the weather warms up yet again, I recommend grabbing a bottle while you can.
The history of Peter Lauer dates to 1830 and the winery is now run by Peter Lauer II and his son Florian. To this day, the Lauer family only farms and produces Riesling in the Saar area of the Mosel in Germany. All the grapes are organically grown on steep slate slopes around the famed Ayler Kupp site and everything is hand-harvested as well. The sparkling wines were started in 1984 and while the family makes an array of sparkling wine, the Sekt is the only bottling we see here in Texas.
This is an elegant and vibrant Sekt that balances freshness with mineral complexity. It has delicate floral notes, with hints of smoke, flint and white flowers. There are refreshing citrus notes, with lemon peel, quince, and juicy pear, finished with a zesty acidity and mineral backbone that make this wine pop! - Melanie Kaman (Pogo's Sommelier)
